Fortune Plum Tree
Fortune is Japanese type plum, which is originated in Fresno, California. Fruit is large, sweet, and juicy. It has firm yellow flesh and red skin.
General Tree Height/Caliper: Most of our fruit trees (apple, peach, apricot, plum, pear, nectarine, quince, and cherry) are grafted/budded and are 4-6' tall with a caliper/diameter of about 1/4-3/4". Most have more than 5' height and 1/2" diameter. The other trees are seedlings, such as pawpaw, mulberry, persimmon, shade, berry, and flowering trees which range from 18-36" tall.

Fortune Plum Tree Overview
Fortune is originated in USDA Horticultural Crops Research Laboratory by D.W. Ramming in Fresno, California. It has complex parentage: Laroda x [ Queen Ann x Late Santa Rosa]. Introduced in 1988. Fruit is large with bright red skin on yellow background color. Fruit has good quality and yellow flesh. It is firm and semiclingstone. Tree is moderately vigorous with upright to slightly spreading growing habit.
The Fortune plum tree is a Japanese plum variety which is well grown in California and produces aromatic, beautiful bright red fruit. In fact it is one of the cultivars developed as mutations from the famous Santa Rosa plum tree. Not only is the fruit juicy and sweet but it is also perfect for cooking/preserving as well as eating off the tree.
Moreover these plums will ripen midseason and can be pollinated by their parent, Santa Rosa. In fact, Luther Burbank, a legendary horticulturist developed the parent variety, Santa Rosa, in Burbank California in the late 1800’s. Contrary to their name, Japanese plums actually originated in China. They were then brought to the US through Japan in the 1800’s. Compared to the European varieties, Japanese varieties are juicier, and not quite as sweet.
Just like any other plum tree, the Fortune plum tree grows best in full sun with well-drained, loamy soil. It can grow well in hardiness zones 5-9. Additionally, it needs around 500 chill hours which are the average hours of air temperature between 32° and 45° F in a typical winter season. - Cultivation: This plum tree grows best in full sun with loamy well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0-7.0. Additionally Fortune plum trees will bear about three years after planting. Moreover it stores very well, is moderately vigorous and upright to slightly spreading.

Warranty
- If your tree doesn’t grow by July 1st or dies in the fall of the first year, please email us with a photo, order number, and description of the issue.
- If the issue is related with the tree itself rather than lack of care, we guarantee to replace it next season or give a full refund.
Refunds and Cancellations
- You can cancel your order to receive a full refund, but please note that cancelling an order after April 1st will result in a partial refund of 75% of the order total.
- We much prefer payments by credit card or PayPal. If you pay by check or cash, then payments for pickup and shipping orders should be received within 30 days of your order, otherwise will be automatically cancelled.
- If due to unforeseen circumstances your ordered tree is no longer available, you can get a full refund or a substitution with another variety.
