AU Rosa (AU-Rosa) is a plum developed by the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station at Auburn University. It has complex parentage, which includes ‘Santa Rosa’, ‘Starcher No. 1,’ and several other disease resistant seedlings. It is a self-fertile cultivar. The fruit ripens early, two weeks after Methley. Additionally the fruit has dark red skin and yellow flesh.
These plum trees are productive. The fruits have excellent size and quality and can be used for the fresh market. The flesh is firm, which makes it easy to pack and ship to commercial markets. The tree is highly resistant to bacterial canker, bacterial fruit spot, bacterial leaf spot, black knot, and plum leaf scald. It is a reliable cultivar for organic growing. It is cold hardy for zone 5, and requires at least 700 chilling hours below 45°F for growing.
