Pecan (Carya illinoinensis) belongs to the walnut family (Juglandaceae) and it considered as the largest of all the hickory trees. It has rich flavor and high fat contents. The tree is monoecious, which means male and female flowers are on the same tree. The female flowers are arranged in tight clusters at the ends of the shoots and the male flowers form hanging catkins.
