Catherina® peach tree is a new clingstone peach variety, which was developed at the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station. The fruit is medium-to-large, round, and firm. It has orange-yellow flesh and a sub-acid flavor. It ripens 10 days before ‘Babygold 5’ clingstone peach and 9 days after Redhaven. Additionally this tree is moderately vigorous and consistently produces good crops. Moreover, it is resistant to canker and bacterial spot. Therefore, you won’t need to spray it and worry about tree damage. Lastly, it does well in cold hardiness zones 5-8. If you would like to know your hardiness zone, you can do so here.
As with other peach trees, you will need to water the Catherina® peach tree once a week during its first year and during the fruiting season. If there is drought, you can water more frequently. This tree needs moist but well-draining soil. In order to retain the moisture, you can place mulch around the tree. Additionally, be sure to clear the weeds next to the tree since this will decrease the competition for nutrients. You can harvest when the flesh gives slightly and the peach pulls away from the tree easily. For more information on fruit tree care, see our guides page.
