Scarlett O’Hara apple tree developed in 1971 at the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station. It was a cross between PCFW 2-134, which is a seed parent, and PRI 669-205, which is a pollen parent. It was released for testing as ‘Co-op 25’ in 1984.
Tree is moderate vigor, spreading with 90 degree crotch angles. The fruit tend to be borne on long spurs, with some slight tendency for tip-bearing.
The fruit matures second half of September, one week before the Delicious. Flesh is very crisp and juicy, with mild sub-acid flavor, and has very good dessert quality. Fruits retain texture and firmness up to 6 months in storage.
The tree is field immune to scab, and it is resistant to cedar apple rust, and moderately resistant to powdery mildew, but it is highly susceptible to fire blight.
