Prima apple tree developed by disease resistant apple breeding program PRI (Purdue University, Rutgers University, and University of Illinois) and introduced in 1970. The fruit has dark red color and slightly striped. It has rich flavor and very good dessert quality. It has good resistance to apple scab and powdery mildew and moderate to good resistance to fire blight, but it has susceptibility to cedar apple rust. It is prone to bitter-pit.
The tree is sensitive to cold and prone to winter injury. It grows well cold hardiness zone 5 and above. The harvest season is late September (2 weeks before Delicious), it ripens uneven and requires several picking.
